Honest John's Garden Favorites Sweet Cluster Tomato.the tasty variety you see in the grocery store of 4-5 ounce fruits in a cluster of 5-6 tomatoes. heres some other Honest John's in a case of what's old is new. heirloom tomatoes Black Krim, Black Cherry and Black Brandywine. peppers, cayenne and Super Chili. New varieties of Wave Petunias for 2012 South Beach Mix and Sweet Tart Mix. the new smaller Flowered Wave Sisters Shockwave Coral Crush, Shockwave Purple and Shockwave Volt mix. New Flower sprouts for 2012 New for 2012, flower sprouts, Kaleidoscope mix. This is a cross between brussel sprouts and kale. The florets can be sautéed or eaten raw with a bit of your favorite veggie dip. The plant grows very similar to brussel sprouts, and is loaded with little kale florets on the stalk. It can also be grown as an ornamental, and will surely cause folks that see it to ask what is that.
New annuals for 2012 We have lots of new annuals in one quart pots for 2012. Here they are: •Cardoon,porto spineless. These are beautiful silver foliage plants that grow large and make a great specimen plant or can also be used in mass plantings. Coleus for 2012 Buttercream (green with cream interior) curly series deep purple, purple haze, red wine and splash. The curlies have frilly serrated edges surrounding each leaf, on top of that they have striking vibrant colors. Coleus, solar sunrise, Coleus stained glass, Coleus sultana, Coleus sunset, Coleus violet tri-color and finally the coolest looking green coleus we've ever seen, Wasabi. and as you know how hot wasabi is this Coleus will thrive in the heat. Under The Sea Coleus Perhaps the best new series in floriculture for 2012, and definitely the coolest, the Under The Sea coleus have a unique crustacean look that makes them irresistible, fun, durable and exotic. You have to look twice because if they were submerged in water they would look alive. With names of bone fish, gold anemone, hermit crab, langostino, lime shrimp, molten coral, sea scallop and red coral, these little critters are sure to be a hit. To top it off, these exceptional coleus were bred by students at a university in in Canada. Royalties from these plants go to help pay for classroom supplies for the students. In a world of high tech breeding, this anomaly occurred from the purest, un-manipulated breeding practices. A unique story paired with a unique look, all are available in one-quart pots. Calibrachoa a.k.a (million bells) for 2012: Dark lavender, hot pink, dark red, grape punch, sweet tart ( pink and yellow bi-color), true blue, and voodoo (lavender with dark veins). New Fibrous Begonia for 2012: Whopper Series. grows very large and has huge blooms for a fibrous begonia, 3-4 inches! The growth is very similar to its cousin dragon wings, but has more round type leaves than the wing type. These things get huge as the name implies and really loves the high heat and humidity we have here in Indiana. There are 4 varieties in the series: bronze leaf red, bronze leaf rose, green leaf red and green leaf rose. These things can be planted 12-18 inches apart and fill in quickly. New Upright Fuchsia for 2012 fun times rose and fun times salmon New Single Flowering Impatiens for 2012: center stage, the plant has green and creamy white variegated leaves with bright red blooms. It can be mixed with other part sun/shade annuals in planters/baskets or window boxes, or simply by itself. This is a Burpee home gardens variety. New for 2012, New Guinea Impatiens Sunpatiens Series. These new guineas can be planted in full sun or part shade, but they were specifically bred for full sun applications. They can be planted or paired up with other annuals either in the ground, baskets, pots, and window boxes. They have a mounding/spreading habit and have done great in all trial sites across the country. With colors such as carmine, corona, lilac, magenta, orange, pink blush, variegated leaf salmon and white. these things definitely give you a lot of bang for your buck New Lobularia for 2012: Silver stream a.k.a alyssum. This stuff loves the heat unlike the seed varieties of alyssum and just keeps getting better as the growing season progresses. It also can tolerate temps as low as 25 degrees once it is established. Put it in the ground and don't be surprised to see it still blooming in December. New for 2012 Nemesia Nemo series. This series has clear crisp blooms. Colors available are orange, pink, ruby, vanilla and yellow. New for 2012 Osteospermum 3d series. The only double flowering osteo on the market. the series won a medal of excellence award in the trade shows this past summer/fall. The blooms have an almost anemone appearance, and unlike single flowering osteos the blooms don't close up at night. its another one of those things when people see it they are drawn to it and ask, "What is that?" We've got them in 3 colors: 3d pink, 3d purple and 3d silver. We've also got in limited supply 2 new colors that won't be formally introduced until this summer, berry white and coral sand. If you are an osteo fan, this will get you seeing in 3D! Lots of new vegetative petunias for 2012 Petunia potunia series known for its round and round habit in colors of blackberry ice, deep purple, dark red, papaya, pinkalicious and yellow. Another new series for 2012 is Petunia Good-n-plenty Series. The growth is mounding and spreading and there are some really unique colors in the series. Nightlife is deep deep magenta with a nearly black throat; blue ice and white ice have intense veining in the blooms, or you can try standard colors of blue, purple, red, rose, and yellow. And as you hear on those infomercials, BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Petunia Bordeaux that is an intense deep purple/black. petunia hot rod red has a vibrant red bloom with no throat that is hard to find in red petunias. Petunia Mystery is as the name implies, hard to say what color it is. Kind of purply/lavender,veiny, hence the name. Petunia Pink Lemonade is pink with a yellow blush and is another one of those asked about colors. Petunia Rhythm and Blues is blue with a white rim and has great heat performance. Last but not least Petunia Sweetunia Yellow. This is one of the crispest yellows on the market. New for 2012 Scaevola Diamonds. This has a blue and white bi-color bloom and loves heat. New for 2012 Torenia Grapeolicious. The bloom is white with a grape throat. New for 2012 Verbena Lanai Twister Pink. We've never seen a verbena like this one, the center of the bloom is pink and the outer petals are white. This has to be a sport that was discovered because only nature could come up with a unique verbena as this one. New for 2012 Regal Geranium Graziosa Piccola Series. This new series blooms continuously, and doesn't stall like the old Martha Washington varieties. There are 4 colors to choose from: merlot, pink picotee, royal lavender and royal soft pink.

If you're looking for some not-too-ordinary stuff, here it is: Abutilon Souvenir De Bon Anisodontea-Barely Boysenberry, Slightly Strawberry Celosia Intenz (this one is really cool) Cosmos Chocamocha dahlia dark angels series racula-pretty woman, star wars, and taxi driver; these have dark foliage and bright colors gazania lemon Spot-This has silver foliage and bright yellow blooms double impatiens ice series- These have variegated leaves and that's something you don't see too often in impatiens. The colors are blackberry ice, pink ice and raspberry ice. hibiscus haight-ashbury and mahogany splendor. While these don't flower and are more for their striking foliage you won't be disappointed at the vibrant leaf colors these two show off. lindernia grandiflora lotus flashbulb- a.k.a parrots beak nasturtium- banana split and red wonder Neirembergia- dark blue this has delicate ferny leaves with intense deep blue flowers. oregano kent beauty- this displays unique florets as well as an intense oregano scent. otomeria o premiara- This new plant is not only beautiful but also performs very well in the heat. The colors are baby pink, pink and ruby. oxalis a.k.a shamrock plant- Very easy to grow and can be used in combination with other annuals. Colors are burgundy, ebony and pink pillow. pedilanthus silverstar a.k.a devils backbone- This is a real conversation piece. rhodanthemum- moondance heres another heat lover. sage- tri-color grown for its multi colored leaves but can be used as an herb also. Scuttelaria scooter series- scooter barberry and scooter flamingo. heres another plant that takes extreme sun and heat conditions. Last but not least is tradescantia- purple. This plant is a great plant for its two tone foliage. It works well in part sun mixed with other annuals.
ORNAMENTAL GRASSES NEW FOR 2012 Carex Ice Cream, Cortaderia Pumila a.k.a Hardy Pampas Grass, Erianthus Revannae, this is a big one growing upwards of 15 feet, juncus inflexus, pennisetum eaton canyon, pennisetum sparkler, sparkler is a sport of the very popular pennisetum fireworks. sparkler has multicolored leaves, we look for this one to sell out fast!
Last, we have new for 2012 the Dahlia Series XXL. They will be offered in one gallon pots. The plants grow very large,and the blooms can measure from 6-8 inches across. They make a true dramatic statement. The colors are burgundy, coral, deep pink, red and yellow. |
